Words and MORE WORDS
I love writing articles and blogs and books and notes and letters and everything!! Just everything and more than everything...Have you ever written something and felt good about the wording or maybe not good about the wording. Just one little word can change the whole idea of what you are writing about.
When we talk the expression of how we say things also changes the meaning , due to the emphasis on the word or even part of the word. We all know this and this is not a new idea for you. But are you actually using this technique? So for example , if you were to ask a friend , 'How are YOU?" with the emphasis on YOU means you are actually interested in them or you know something about them that you are secretly asking about without saying it. The 'secret code' is the emphasis on YOU...this means they have probably shared something with you and maybe even only you and now you are asking how they are according to the story they shared with you. So they will answer accordingly ....they will answer in a way that nobody else will understand. We all do this naturally but are you aware of the power of the language and the emphasis?
Or you could ask the regular way , "How are you?" with no emphasis and no story background for the question. You are only asking out of politeness and a mannerly thing to do. If you have even a slight bond with somebody they may feel safe with you and share a bit with you about how they are really feeling about the day or an event or whatever they feel safe about to share with you. Have you noticed that when you can feel when someone really cares in their asking "How are you?" It entices you to share and maybe even just talk a bit more with them.
But when someone is on automatic pilot or they don't have the time to really hear the answer, you can feel this as well. What I have been trying lately is when somebody is asking me how I am and they don't really want to know the answer or it is just something that they state in an involuntary automatic reflex, I then say , "Wow you look busy?" What happens is then "they" share with me....unless they walk away before you can answer the question. So be aware and just notice , with no judgement , just notice.
Language is so interesting in verbal and in written form. Pay attention to your language and how you say things and what the response is from you to them and they to you.
